Imperials drum up support for new performers

Almost two years ago, efforts to revive the Pembroke Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps (a nationally ranked musical marching unit) began with a wonderful reunion. The Imperials Board of Directors was re-established. They started raising funds and acquiring equipment to establish a new parade corps with the hopes of someday becoming a competition corps.

The Imperials began rehearsing last winter with a small but talented group of charter members. They achieved their initial goal by appearing in the Hingham Forth of July Parade this past summer, looking and sounding well rehearsed and professional.

Now that the organization has successfully re-established itself, the Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps is actively seeking more members who are interested in playing a brass instrument (trumpet, baritone, mid-range, tuba, etc.), or marching percussion. The corps will also have a color guard (flag squad). Members will rehearse Sundays in the fall and winter from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pembroke Community Center, Route 14, Pembroke. Spring and summer rehearsals will be outdoors.

Although the group is referred to as a Drum & Bugle Corps, instruments classified as bugles are no longer used. Members now use brass horns, which are the same as the marching brass horns found in school bands. The corps is seeking music students and even beginners who have the desire to learn an instrument. The corps will offer expert and qualified instruction in a group setting at an unbeatable membership fee. The Imperials also will offer unlimited free music instruction for trial members. Trial members will get to rehearse with the group but will not perform with the group until they seek full membership. The cost for instruction will be $250 per year for the first family member, with additional family members costing $50 per person, per year.
