Look at it from their point of view. It's like living in poverty, and trying to buy expensive stuff. They just cannot keep up with it. If people knew more about DCI, and were willing to Donate, I firmly believe that DCI would have absolutely no problem with public broadcasting. But as of now, there's no money in it.

Thanksgiving is not the same without the DCI broadcast.

Its so very sad that another American tradition has fallen by the wayside!

Bring the DCI Thanksgiving day broadcast back to PBS.

Sandy ,,, true there were corps marching with holes. I think the point that needs to be made is that there was an interpretation of the rule as it stood at that point in time. The verbiage was not clear as the cut-off date. This exists in other competetive "sports" whereby, although a person may be over 21 when the season ended, they were 21 when the season began. My understanding of what transpired in '75 was that the corps with members that did not march in Finals were boderline offenses. In the case of '75 Hawthorne, there were people out there that were clearly 22 when the season started.

This all came to a new level in '76 when members of corps were randomly pulled off to the side, and the corps had to provide verifiacation of their age. This happened to me twice, and I was 20 at the time. In '77, things got even tighter and the rules were quite clear. And despite that, some corps still fielded over aged people a la Bayonne in '77.

Sad that two of the best corps to ever hit a field in that era never had a chance to win a finals. And really, did the over aged members yield a competitive advantage? But a rule is a rule.

Now, as for not being able to see these corps on TV ,,, I think we all know what is driving that. Sell Sell Sell ,,,

That's too bad. With so many years in junior corps and then 10 with the Marines in D.C., well it's a shame. I stepped off the line so many times, my heart burning with the thrill of the performance. I started drum corps because I saw it on TV. Oh well. Recruiting for drum corps, the next future crop of musicians, individualists, drum majors, massively successful performers, they are out there somewhere but they may not know it. An artist is awakened by seeing art. The thunderous cords, the pounding drums, the precision of the drill....too bad more cannot share in it. Go back to PBS quickly. The future of your organization is in the hearts and hands of those you touch.

This is just disappointing, being a high school band alumni, and hearing this news all the way from China studying medicine just wishing for great internet connection to watch the shows online, this erks my heart out for those who follow DCI as much as I do. Not only that, but the PBS broadcastings were much, much better than those eyesores they call ESPN broadcasting. We should have never done the switch, espn is a sporting channel, they obviously don't see the error in showing 3 minute clips of a show!!!! Do us all a favor, pay up the money for the shows to be aired on PBS, work out a deal. Because, and I think I am safe to say that I am not alone on this, I am tired of this jock entertainment bullshit airing our performances!

ohh and the Blue Devils baaaddaaaaaaasssssssssss

Paleeze dont get me started on dci i'm 54 a fan of drum corps. for 50 years.DCI turned their backs on the VFW and the AMERICAN LEGION POSTS which by the way created and sponsored DRUM & BUGLE CORPS.My disenchanted brother says what sport changes their rules every year.People talking within the show whats next 1 horn 1 drum a singer and a water fountain.By doing away with the starting line they made sure that sitting on the 50 yard line was the only place to capture the show for the dci elite.THEY INSULT THE INTELLIGENCE OF FANS AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.I have put up with it because i am a drum corps. fan but dislike dci intensely or immensely.I have so much more to say but who will listen. sorry just had to vent, thanks

Correction, that's $140 bucks I will not pay haha...actually I wouldn't pay a dollar for that DVD. I marched and had to hand over quite ENOUGH money to DCI. Unless my money is going to support some DCI related cause like funding someone's tuition, or helping with the fees of food/toilettries/GATORADE, gas, housing, etc. during tour...I'm not putting money towards some darn DVD! That is completely obsurd. Yeah I said it.

I must say that googling to find out when they were going to air this year's finals, and then finding out this HORRIBLE news was THE most disappointing thing I have read all year...ESPECIALLY SINCE I DID NOT GET TO SEE ANY SHOWS THIS YEAR!!!! And this is the first time I missed anything since I marched in 2004! I just figured I could just hold out until Thanksgiving. I was sooooo amped too because the fact that Phantom won was going to be the highlight of my day! After all of the stories I heard about the show...all I wanted to do was see it. PLUS I just can not see paying for a DVD that I didn't even march in.
With that being said...

The Alumni in the Drum Corps World looks forward to every possible thing that we can grab onto that is DCI related. Some of us CAN'T go across the country to see the shows. Some of us CAN'T afford to make it to finals. And also some of us who usually have shows performing locally, were unfortunately not near a single performing site this summer. When we marched, some of us worked EXTREMELY HARD to earn the right to ATLEAST be able to see the Finals show on Thanksgiving...Why take this little thing from us? We don't request that much! Oh and another thing, I fail to believe that this has anything to do with our lacking economy. Seriously? If they would have just stayed with PBS, you know this wouldn't have been a problem, right?

I'm not trying to pay 40-something dollars for a DVD I did not march in...I'm not trying to drive 4hrs to see pieces of shows in a theatre, extravagant or not...I mean something HAS to be done! PLEASE! DO NOT LET 2009 REPEAT THIS AWFUL PROCESS AGAIN! :(
